B. Value foundation and attitudes
Everyone has values and an understanding of the world, even if these values are often not expressed explicitly, they become visible through attitudes and actions.
In spite of different value foundations, people can still share many common values, which make it possible to co-operate in the achievement of creating a better world.

God’s creation and the equality of all people
PMU InterLife’s value foundation is founded on the Bible’s account of the world and mankind being God’s creation. God created mankind in his own image, and gave them the mission of nurturing, protecting and being stewards of his creation, which bestows upon all people the same, inherent value.
Role models for a good society
In a world where God’s will reigns, people work together to build and develop a good society. It is one of the cornerstones in what is called the Kingdom of God.
God is present everywhere in the world, and influences people to create and develop in accordance with his desires. The Bible also provides us with the image of Christians as all belonging to one body, in which every individual is a part of the body and all of the parts are there to help each other. Jesus Christ himself, through the selfless life he lived here on earth, is a true role model for all mankind.
The spirit of fellowship destroyed and restored
According to the Bible, God’s original vision of perfect fellowship was destroyed when evil came into the world and damaged the relationship between God and mankind.
This also affected people’s relations with each other, and our ability to care for God’s creation. The result was conflict, oppression, illness and ecological imbalance. But Christianity is founded on the belief that God loved the world so much that he became a human being in the form of Jesus Christ to make possible atonement, liberation and restoration, and that Jesus’ life after death provides hope for the future of mankind both now and forever.
The goal of the restoration of the relationship between God and mankind was the salvation for all creation including nature. For mankind this means a new chance to live in freedom and to learn what true humanity is, as Jesus Christ himself lived and taught.
The mission of the church
The mission of the church is to together with individuals and organisations create a society in which God’s good will reigns. The church shall help in liberating people and the preservation of nature both locally and globally. The church shall offer a restored relationship and dialogue with God and fellow man, and a creative spirit of fellowship in which all are treated equally and there is an ambition to share economic resources fairly. The church also has a special mission in clarifying what our eternal hope in the future means through Jesus Christ.
Holistic view of poverty and oppression
People have needs that are both material and existential. Therefore, the question of the meaning of life and the ethics related to this are a natural part of the dialogue regarding development. Poverty and oppression may be spiritual, cultural, social or material, and working towards a positive change in society needs to include all of these areas.
PMU InterLife wants to co-operate and build networks with churches, organisations and groups that contribute to creating a good society for all people. We want to work for unity, recognize diversity and see everyone’s capabilities as a resource. Together with our co-operation partners and target groups (key stakeholders), we want to further peace and democracy. We also want to work to promote human rights and gender equality as well as a just distribution of resources and a sustainable use of natural resources. PMU InterLife wants to see liberated and restored people who can jointly develop their abilities, and create better lives for themselves and a brighter future.
The Project Manual was written primarily for Swedish churches and local partners who are currently working with or would like to begin working with PMU.
The purpose of the manual is to facilitate the management of projects primarily financed by Sida or the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO). The manual is a steering document and provides advice on many different aspects of project management – from ideas for new projects to the presentation of project results.
It describes several types of project support in development cooperation and humanitarian work. The first section describes PMU’s value foundation and the attitude and approach that are to permeate all activities carried out with PMU support. Our relationships and the way in which we treat and describe others are important and impact to what degree we succeed in reaching our common goals.
PMU’s work methods are primarily based on an interactive learning process. We aim to be a learning organisation in which dialogue takes centre stage. This means using what we learn in discussions with our partners to constantly re-examine our actions and methods. We strive to understand how everything fits together in a process in which we are continuously influencing each other. Our Project Manual is therefore a fluid document that is updated on an ongoing basis. The rules and guidelines we currently apply are based on instructions from Sida and ECHO, as well as on our practical experience.
